Calgary’s best players weren’t even close to good enough as the Flames faltered in front of Jacob Markstrom again, losing for the third game in a row.

The Flames dropped their third straight after coming out hot in the first period. Blake Coleman got the Flames on the board first with his 200th career point, but after that it became the Igor Shesterkin Show. The Rangers goalie locked everything down after looking shaky in the first half of the opening frame. Calgary once again had more shots on goal, but seemed hesitant at times to shoot when they had good looks.

If you’re looking for silver linings, Jacob Markstrom was good, the Mikael Backlund line was excellent, and Yegor Sherangovich and Noah Hanifin looked good as well. Outside of that the Flames were terrible. Nazem Kadri looks like he used up all of his energy in his first few shifts and Elias Lindholm and Jonathan Huberdeau might as well have stayed home because they were a combination of invisible and or useless.

The PP was another concern as they are now 0-13 over the last four games and the PK struggled as well, going 3-5 on the night.

Overall, another lackluster performance for the good guys and this team is going to seriously need to get it together as it looks like it’s a repeat of 2022-23.
